When they were leaving for this operation on Thursday, July 3, at around 7:30 p.m., they did not think that these would be the most difficult hours in their service to date. For many hours they fought a fire that broke out in the Kopernika housing estate in Ząbki.

The fire consumed part of the blocks connected to each other in a U-shape. It first appeared on the roof of one of them, and then spread rapidly. Firefighters from all over the area were sent to the action. There were 60 teams, about 250 rescuers. Each of them gave their all. They did what they could to save the property of the injured people.

The Volunteer Fire Department in Ząbki posted a moving photo and a post online that is truly heartbreaking. The photo shows twenty firefighters in front of a fire truck. They stand there, clearly tired, in soot-stained uniforms. One woman is among them.

We returned from the Kopernika estate. We did everything we could. Each of us gave as much as we had strength. Now we return to our homes, to our beds – and although it gives a moment of relief, we cannot fully enjoy it. Our thoughts are still with those who lost everything that night. Homes, safety, a sense of normality
